Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Open Access Policy

The journal METALLA makes its content available free of charge as it promotes the free accessibility of research results to the public and the global exchange of scientific knowledge. The journal is a platinum open access journal where publication is free for authors and all content is freely accessible to readers.

From xxxx 2022, PDFs of new contributions (articles, Sonderhefte) will be published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC BY 4.0 International). The licence can be found at Creative Commons — Attribution 4.0 International — CC BY 4.0.

In the case of exceptions, reference is made to the different CC licences.

The journal only receives a non-exclusive right of use from the author/authors for the publication of the contributions made available.

The Creative Commons licence of the articles determines the regulation of the use of images or other third party material, unless a separate copyright is indicated. If material is not included in the article's Creative Commons licence and your intended use is not permitted by statutory regulation or exceeds the permitted use, you will need to obtain permission directly from the copyright holder.

Contributions published in METALLA before XXX 2022 can also be accessed free of charge, depending on the legal conditions and the processing status. However, these are subject to the conditions applicable at the time of their publication. Contributions in this category can be found in the archive.

Please note that the rights to the logos contained on the website and in the PDFs of the contributions to the METALLA belong to the respective rights holders of the logo.

Author and editor management for a publication

By signing your author or publisher contract, we collect and process your data in the manner described here on the basis of legal entitlement.

The data collection and data processing (personal and copyright-related) is carried out for the purpose of creating and publishing a publication (e.g. book or article) / article in printed and digital form. In addition, the data is used for publication for an online database in digital form (open access), for the implementation of pre-contractual measures and for accounting and tax purposes. Furthermore, we store your data in order to inform you about the creation of a new publication (monograph, article, contribution) or about new publications (Art. 6 para. 1 DS-GVO in connection with §§ 147 AO, 257 HGB).

We store and use your personal data only to the extent necessary for the execution of the contract, provision of services and invoicing.

Surname, first name, address data (private or institutional), telephone number, e-mail address

Copyright data

Author's manuscript, related materials such as photos, graphics, tables etc.

Recipient of data

Internally, the departments that are responsible for processing the respective task have access to personal data. Externally, data is transferred to the respective service provider (e.g. publishers, printers, graphic designers, sales, technical service providers and technical infrastructure service providers).

Obligation to provide data

There is no contractual or legal obligation on your part to provide us with personal data. However, without the data you provide, we will not be able to conclude a contract with you and publish your book or article.

Duration of storage

The data will be deleted as soon as they are no longer necessary for the purpose for which they were collected. After the storage purpose has ceased to apply, the retention periods are generally at least six or ten years. In accordance with our deletion concept, data is generally deleted immediately, unless this is contrary to any obligation to retain data, the necessity to fulfil the contract or a legitimate interest. In addition, data may be stored if this has been provided for by the European or national legislator in EU ordinances, laws or other regulations to which the person responsible is subject. The data will also be blocked or deleted if a storage period prescribed by the aforementioned standards expires, unless there is a need for further storage of the data for the conclusion or performance of a contract.

Rights of persons affected

You are entitled to request information about the data we have stored about you, to demand correction if the data is incorrect or to demand deletion of the data, data transferability and restriction of processing if the data is stored in an inadmissible manner. You can exercise your right of objection at any time without stating reasons and amend or completely revoke the given declaration of consent with effect for the future.

This information relates to data-related processes that apply specifically to the handling of the OJS publication of the journal METALLA by the University Library of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
